Overgrazing of cattle pastures leads to plants with weak root systems subject to invasion by unpalatable weeds, soil erosion, stream pollution, and leaching of nitrogen into ground water supplies. Rational grazing practices, along with provision of clean water sources and stream bank replanting and fencing, can result in higher productivity and restoration of the natural environment.
